Swedish Institute Study Scholarship

The Swedish Institute Study Scholarship provides a number of full scholarships for master’s programmes in Sweden. The programme is open to students who are citizens of countries on the OECD/DAC list. The programme offers a unique opportunity for future leaders to develop professionally and academically, to experience Swedish society and culture and to build a long-lasting relationship with Sweden and each other.

MALAYSIAN TECHNICAL COOPERATION PROGRAMME (MTCP)

The MTCP Scholarship Award provides opportunities for students to pursue advanced academic study in Malaysia. This scholarship is a Government-to Government scheme without any bond imposed by Malaysia. Scholarships are intended for promising men and women who may be expected to make a significant contribution to their own countries on their return from study abroad. The Malaysian Government offers up to 40 MTCP Scholarships each year. The scholarship are available for post-graduate studies at Masters and Ph.D level tenable at any Malaysian public university, and are available to citizens of the MTCP participating countries. The duration of the award is 36 to 42 months for Ph.D and between 12 to 24 months for Masters programme.

    Application for BSP is open to all qualified candidates who fulfill the established criteria irrespective of whether the candidate is a student/graduate of UM or other universities.

    World Federation of Scientists Scholarship

    The World Federation of Scientists (WFS)based in Geneva, Switzerland, promotes international collaboration in science and technology between scientists and researchers from all parts of the world and has more than 10,000 members from all parts of the world.

    The scholarship is awarded to Malaysian nationals to support scientific research activities in Malaysian universities, under the supervision of a local scientist. Each scholarship has a duration of maximum one year and is valued at about 2400 swiss franc (about RM 6,600). Applications are invited from post graduate students at all Malaysian universities (both at Master’s and PhD level). The research activities must be linked to one of the Planetary Emergencies as set out by the World Federation of Scientists (seewww.federationofscientists.org  In Malaysia, priority will be given to research in the fields of  :

    • environmental pollution
    • water resources
    • soil
    • energy  
    • food
    • climate change
    • medicine
    • biotechnology
    • sustainable development

    Up to 10 scholarships (per country) can be awarded in any one year. The scholarship brochure and application form are attached.

    This scholarship is open to students who have no other scholarship or have only partial support from elsewhere. It is also only open to postgraduate students who are doing research. Those doing their postgraduate degree by coursework are not eligible. The scholarship is open only to Malaysians doing research in Malaysian universities.

    The Sumitomo Foundation

    The Sumitomo Foundation is offering grants to researchers conducting studies in the field of social sciences or humanities that are related to Japan. The programme, aimed at promoting mutual understanding between Asian countries and Japan, is open to all Asian researchers (except those of Japanese nationality) living outside of Japan.

    The grant period is for one year (March 2011 – March 2012) and approximately 55 million yen has been budgeted for the programme, whereby about 70 projects will be selected by the Foundation’s Selection Committee.

    The application period for the grant is from 1 September 2010 – 31 October 2010, and interested researchers are encouraged to apply.

    Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

    Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme for the 2011/2012 academic year. The scheme is aimed at bringing top students from around the world to Hong Kong to undertake PhD studies in a wide range of fields.

    Applicants should be those seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in one of 8 Hong Kong institutions, namely:

    IDRC Fellowships and Awards

    This Fellowship (a bequest from Helen S. Bentley and C. Fred Bentley) provides assistance to Canadian and developing-country graduate students with a university degree in agriculture, forestry or biology, who wish to undertake postgraduate, applied, on-farm research with cooperating farmers in a developing country.
    In principle, IDRC supports research on all parts of the developing regions of the world. At this time, Fellowships and Awards is not supporting awards which involve research in Burma, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Eastern Europe or Central Asia.
    Projects should evaluate and/or promote the use of fertility enhancing plants, such as leguminous forages, shrubs, cover crops, and grain legumes in small farms. The intent is to seek ways to increase the yield of food crops, improve farmers' livelihoods, and improve soil fertility.

    Fellowships at The National Gallery of Canada

    Competitive fellowships are offered in the fields of Canadian Art; Indigenous Art; and History of Photography.

    The fellowships are open to international competition.Fellowships are tenable only at the National Gallery of Canada. The term of full-time residency must fall within the period 1 September 2010 to 31 August 2011. Awards can be up to $5,000 a month, including expenses and stipend, to a maximum of $30,000. Fellowships are not renewable.

    Harold White Fellowships

    The National Library of Australia offers annual fellowships to established researchers and writers. Established by the Council of the National Library of Australia in 1983 as the National Library Fellowships, the first Fellows commenced their research at the Library in 1984. The fellowships were renamed in honour of Sir Harold White CBE (1905-1992), the first National Librarian, in 1985.

    The fellowships scheme aims to promote the Library as a centre of scholarly activity and research, encourage scholarly and literary use of the Library’s collections and production of publications arising from that scholarship, and to promote the Library’s rich and varied collections. Four to seven fellowships, of periods from three to six months, are awarded annually.

    Japan/World Bank Scholarship

    The mission of the World Bank Group is to reduce poverty and improve living standards through sustainable development and investment in people. The World Bank Institute (WBI) is at the forefront of the Bank's efforts to promote learning and deliver to the stakeholders, the best thinking and experience emerging from around the world on issues crucial to reform and socio-economic development. Through its management of the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) and the Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSM Fellowships), WBI supplements its training programs by providing opportunities for graduate study to promising professionals from developing member countries. The objective of the Scholarship and Fellowship Programs is to help create an international community of highly-trained professionals working in the field of economic and social development.     IDS-FunMat Scholarships

    IDS-FunMat is an International Doctoral Programme in Functional Materials funded by the ERASMUS MUNDUS Programme of the European Union.Our school offers scholarships for PhD projects in Functional Materials Science, carried out in co-supervision between universities from two different countries (see list of partners). In most projects an industry partner is also involved. The PhD candidates must spend at least 6 months in each university. The projects start around October and take 3-4 years.

    The European Union finances each year a number of ERASMUS MUNDUS PhD scholarships in our school, and in addition we have PhD projects funded by other sources.

    Scholarships for PhD projects in Functional Materials Science which are carried out in co-supervision between universities from two different countries (see list of partners).
