Pembroke-King’s Programme (PKP)

The Pembroke-King’s Programme (PKP) offers an exceptional opportunity to experience Cambridge student life over eight weeks, the length of a regular undergraduate term.

Living in Pembroke or King’s Colleges, students choose three courses from the around forty on offer, including courses in the arts, social sciences, business and management, humanities and sciences. Courses are taught in the main by Cambridge-affiliated faculty and are academically 'Cambridge' in style, content and standard. Students can also apply to take a supervision, in which an individual student meets with a professor weekly to work on a series of research-based papers, or a longer dissertation, in the student’s major subject area.

Included in the programme costs are tuition fees for three courses, usually worth 9-12 credits, housing in Pembroke or King’s College accommodation, a partial meal plan and Formal Halls, a four-day visit to Edinburgh and a daytrip to London. Four scholarships covering the full tuition fee are also available.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Asia Foundation Malaysia is inviting students who have successfully been accepted into Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to pursue a degree in electrical engineering, electronics or physics to apply for the “Power of Education Scholarship”.

This program is sponsored by National Semiconductor with the objective of providing opportunities to qualified students who, despite their academic competence, are unable to continue their education due to financial constraints. The scholarship will include course fees and a stipend to subsidize the cost of books and living expenses.

Selection Criteria
The National Semiconductor University Scholarship Program will be awarded to low-income boy and girls who have been admitted into UM or UKM. The candidates will have demonstrated academic achievement and a commitment to learning. Selection will be based on the following:
All candidates must be entering their first year of university for the academic session 2011/2012;
All candidates must have secured admission to UM or UKM pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, electronics or physics ; and
All candidates will be able to demonstrate financial need illustratively, salary statements of parents will be requested; family income should be less than RM2500 per month.
Each student will be ranked and the most qualified and needy students will be offered the program.

Conditions of Scholarship
-Depending on the duration of the course, this scholarship allows a full study term of up to four years.
No extension of the study period will be granted.
Students are required to pass all the required course/exams in each term/semester.
Failing to pass one course/exam will result in the termination of the program. .

This scholarship is also open to the children of National Semiconductor employees.

Engagement Opportunities for Scholarship Recipients
January 2012 & 2013: week-long program at the National Semiconductor plant during semester break.
September 2014: Four month internship within National Semiconductor’s Test Engineering Department.
Upon graduation, scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to apply for open positions prior to University job fairs and road shows.

INFORMATION ON SCHOLARSHIP
The TAN SRI LEE LOY SENG FOUNDATION is an educational foundation which among other charitable activities, award scholarships to Malaysian students irrespective of their race and religion. The scholarship is tenable for the period laid down for the course of study leading to a first degree in local institutions of higher learning and will be offered on a yearyear basis based on successful results obtained annually.

VALUE OF EACH SCHOLARSHIP
The value of each scholarship shall be RM5,000.00 per academic year for diploma courses and between RM7,000.00 to RM8,000.00 per academic year for first degree courses, depending on the course taken.

APPLICANTS MUST:-
Be a Malaysian citizen and resident.
Show financial need for the scholarship support.
Fulfill the academic and other conditions required in taking up a place at one of the local universities or colleges.
Obtain good academic results for Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
Possess a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.80 and above for undergraduates who are currently studying in local colleges / universities.
Not holding a scholarship / study loan from any other organization.

When considering each application, the Management Committee of the Foundation will take into account not only the applicant's financial position and academic achievements but also :-
Attributes which indicate that the applicant is likely to become an outstanding citizen.

World Federation of Scientists Scholarship

The World Federation of Scientists (WFS), based in Geneva, Switzerland, promotes international collaboration in science and technology between scientists and researchers from all parts of the world and has more than 10,000 members from all parts of the world.

The scholarship is awarded to Malaysian nationals to support scientific research activities in Malaysian universities, under the supervision of a local scientist. Each scholarship has a duration of maximum one year and is valued at about 2400 swiss franc (about RM 6,600). Applications are invited from post graduate students at all Malaysian universities (both at Master’s and PhD level). The research activities must be linked to one of the Planetary Emergencies as set out by the World Federation of Scientists (seewww.federationofscientists.org In Malaysia, priority will be given to research in the fields of :

environmental pollution
water resources
soil
energy
food
climate change
medicine
biotechnology
sustainable development

Up to 10 scholarships (per country) can be awarded in any one year. The scholarship brochure and application form are attached.

The Sumitomo Foundation

The Sumitomo Foundation is offering grants to researchers conducting studies in the field of social sciences or humanities that are related to Japan. The programme, aimed at promoting mutual understanding between Asian countries and Japan, is open to all Asian researchers (except those of Japanese nationality) living outside of Japan.

The grant period is for one year (March 2011 – March 2012) and approximately 55 million yen has been budgeted for the programme, whereby about 70 projects will be selected by the Foundation’s Selection Committee.

This Fellowship (a bequest from Helen S. Bentley and C. Fred Bentley) provides assistance to Canadian and developing-country graduate students with a university degree in agriculture, forestry or biology, who wish to undertake postgraduate, applied, on-farm research with cooperating farmers in a developing country.

MBA Scholarship Award

Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Malaysia (HBSACM) is offering MBA scholarships to eligible Malaysians to pursue their Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in public universities (IPTAs). The MBA Scholarship Award is a contribution bub HBSACM in generating interest among promising graduates to further their studies at the MBA level. The recipient of the award is not bonded to work for HBSACM.

Scholarship is given to a full t ime student who has enrolled for the first year of the MBA course. A student who is already receiving scholarship is not eligible for this award. Only one scholarship award is allocated to each selected University for this 2010/2011 session.

The value of the MBA scholarship Award is RM10,000 which is paid to the recipient at RM5,000 a year for two years. The second payment of RM5,000 is subject to the recipient performing well in the first year and has registered as a full time student for the second and final year. The University is required to submit an academic progress report of the recipient at the end of the first year and on completion of the MBA course.

The selection of the candidate is left to the University. The selection criteria is based on the following:

Applications are invited for the Taufik Ali Memorial Scholarships for Postgraduate Studies tenable in the academic year 2009/2010.

Applicants must:

be of Muslim faith born in Malaysia or in Hong Kong;

CONDITIONS OF AWARD

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit.

VALUE

Tuition fees and a monthly living allowance to be determined by the Selection Committee. One return airfare at the most economical rate from home country to Hong Kong may be granted for the whole period of study at The University of Hong Kong.

TENURE

The scholarships are renewable for a second year, subject to excellent academic progress.

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) invites applications for a small number of Post-Doctoral and shorter-term Visiting Fellowships for outstanding mathematicians from developing countries to spend up to 12 months at ICTP during the year January - December 2010. The Post-Doctoral Fellowships are intended for younger mathematicians who have obtained a PhD in mathematics after 1 January 2006, and there may be a possibility for these Fellowships to be renewed for a further 12 months upon request.

In 2010 the emphasis will be on Combinatorics and Dynamical
Systems, and it is expected that distinguished specialists in the fields will be present during the year. Therefore, a special attention will be given to candidates working in these areas. Preference is given to candidates who have recent publications and recommendation letters from renowned mathematicians in their field.

POWERTEK SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

The Powertek Scholarship Awards (PSA), funded by Powertek Berhad which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tanjong, are open to deserving undergraduates pursuing degree programmes at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).

In order to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have achieved excellent SPM examination results and are financially deserving. Applicants are also required to undergo an evaluation process conducted by Powertek which includes one-to-one interviews and personal profile analysis.

The value of the scholarship is up to RM20,000 for each academic year. This amount covers the academic fees, accommodation, books and living allowances. Scholarship recipients are required to serve Powertek for a stipulated period upon completion of their studies.

Details of the PSA will be made available within the UNITEN campus and new students will also be informed of the PSA in one of the sessions during their orientation period. Application forms for the PSA can be obtained from the office of UNITEN's Registrar or Student Affairs.

GAB Foundation Partial Scholarship Scheme

The GAB Foundation Partial Scholarship Scheme aims to assist deserving Malaysian students who are embarking on or already pursuing their higher studies in either certificate, diploma or undergraduate studies in recognised Institutions of Higher Learning.

Under the scheme, the Foundation will disburse the following amount to successful applicants, at the beginning of each financial year, until the completion of their studies :

RM10,000 per year per successful applicant for undergraduate studies
RM5,000 per year per successful applicant for diploma or advanced diploma courses
RM3,000 per year per successful applicant for certificate courses

Only applicants pursuing recognised courses, which have been approved by the Board of Trustees, will be considered. All applications received will be given due consideration via a set selection process and the ultimate decision will be made by the Board of Trustees.

UMAP Thailand Scholarship

The Commission on Higher Education (CHE), Thailand, has a policy to promote student mobility in Asia and the Pacific region for better understanding of diverse cultures among the people and to enhance academic linkages between universities in the region.

CHE, as the UMAP member secretariat of Thailand, offers scholarships for eligible students who are enrolled in UMAP member universities to attend a 4 week course at selected Thai universities. Students from non-UMAP member universities are also welcome to apply for the program but priorities are given to applicants from UMAP member universities. The 4 week course meets 5 weekdays a week except national holidays.
The course is team-taught by prominent faculties teaching in leading Thai univesities in and outside Bangkok. Excursion to historical and cultural sites and localties is included.

Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC)

The Government of India has a special scholarship programme for the children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non Resident Indians (NRIs) for pursuing undergraduate professional and general courses in India.

Scholarships are being offered for Undergraduate courses in disciplines:

Agriculture / Animal Husbandry
Sciences, Law, etc.
Except for medical and related courses.

The amount of scholarship on offer is 75% of the Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) or US $ 3,600, whichever is less. IEC includes Tuition fee, Hostel fee and other institutional charges.

NRI candidates would be eligible for the grant of scholarship only if their total family income does not exceed an amount equivalent to US $ 1,500. Children of NRIs should have pursued at least three years of education inclusive of 11th & 12th or equivalent (not beyond), in a foreign country during the last six years, and have passed the qualifying examination abroad.

Candidates would be selected on the basis of a Common Entrance Test (of Objective Type in English, Reasoning Ability and General Awareness) to be conducted by Educational Consultants India Limited (Ed.CIL) at the High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur. The candidates would also have to fulfil the eligibility criteria prescribed for the purpose.

Academic Qualification:

Candidates with 60% aggregate marks or 6.75/10.00 CGPA or equivalent grades in Higher Secondary (12th standard) or equivalent as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), will be eligible to appear for the Entrance Test. The candidate must have studied the prescribed essential subjects at the qualifying examination level to pursue a particular course of study.

Applicants who have appeared or will be appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2008 and whose results have not yet been declared can also apply, if they are otherwise eligible. Such candidates will, however, be admitted to the Institute only if they are able to produce all the required testimonials to Ed.CIL by 10 June 2008 and have, otherwise, been selected based on the Common Entrance Test.

Technical Cooperation Scheme (TCS) of Colombo Plan

The TCS of Colombo Plan, the Government of India bears the cost of training to foreign participants by providing for the airfare, tuition fee, accommodation and living allowance. This scheme is administered by the Department of Economic Affairs, under the Ministry of Finance, India.

Malaysia has been allotted a few slots under the TCS of Colombo Plan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia, the Public Service Department of Malaysia, and the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Malaysia, are the nodal agencies for this programme. Indian Trust Fund

The High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur, administers a scholarship called the Indian Trust Fund, through which it provides a small amount of approximately RM 1,000 per year, for Malaysian Indian students who pursue their studies in a local college in Malaysia.

This is to help the economically weaker section of the Malaysian Indian society who are meritorious and who are finding it difficult to find the means for higher education.

The application forms are put out in June-July every year. Renewal candidates also have to re-apply to get the scholarship, but only fresh candidates will be called for interview. Only those candidates who have been selected in the interview will receive the scholarship. When too many renewal candidates apply, not all will get the renewal – in such cases the renewal of scholarship will depend on certain criteria set by the selection committee of the Indian Trust Fund.

IOR-ARC Scholarship Scheme

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) offers two scholarships to meritorious students from Malaysia, for Post-Graduate courses only, under the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) Scholarship scheme.

The IOR-ARC scholarship does not cover courses in medicine or dentistry. Candidates must pass an English Proficiency Test conducted by the High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur. Priority will be given to students who have never studied in India before.

International Medical University (IMU) Scholarship 2009

The International Medical University (IMU) has recognized that there are many Malaysian students who aspire to be a health sciences professional. For various reasons, some of these students are not able to achieve their life-long ambition, including those students whose families do not have the financial resources to support them for entry into an international institution like the IMU.

Korean Government Scholarship Undergraduate Studies in Korea

The Government of the Republic of Korea is offering scholarship for at least six Malaysian students in order to support their undergraduate studies in Korea. The scholarship serves to promote education exchanges and friendship between Malaysia and Korea. Last year, the Korean government awarded scholarship to seven Malaysians for undergraduate degree course and forty two for graduate degree course.

The scholarship covers five-year-studies in Korea comprising one year of Korean language course and four years of undergraduate course. benefits of the scholarship include roundtrip airfare, monthly allowances (about RM2,500), settlement allowance, repatriation allowance, language training expenses, medical insurance as well as full tuition fees.

The applicants must be under 25 years old who have finished or are scheduled to finish a total of 12 years formal education as of 1 March 2009. Applicants should possess a food command of English and be willing to promote amicable relations between Malaysia and the Republic of Korea.

Ten undergraduate scholarships are offered to students for undergraduate study in any subject offered by the University. The scholarships will be worth £1,000 per year and will be tenable for the duration of the programme of study.

Eligibility

The scholarships are competitive and will be awarded to citizens from Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the USA who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for an undergraduate programme of study.

The scholarship will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit.

The scholarship is not available to students already on programme.

Applicants should have applied through UCAS, should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.
